Challenge # 9 - Patriotic Pin-ups

It's election month!  I hope you all go out and vote, but after you vote draw a patriotic pin-up!  I'll let you interpret this one however you'd like, but besides the obvious pretty girl in sexy outfit, here are some themes to help you out:

• An Election themed girl/Politics
• "Bombshell Girls" that artists would paint on the side of WWII planes
• Historical Patriotic Women
• American War Propaganda
• Patriotic Women of other countries and cultures

Days of San Francisco Summer

This is my late entry for the "Days of Summer" challenge. I uh, did a single page comic rather than a pin-up for whatever reason.. (sorry Adam!) I might do a pin up of the girl in the comic and post it later.
Being from Florida I find it hard to be in the "Summer" mood when Summer here is what I would consider Winter back home. This comic depicts a girl, I suppose myself, day dreaming of the Summer weather and cute Summer clothes and then of course misses the bus and has to wait in the frigid cold for an exaggerated 60 minutes.
Hope you enjoy!

PS. Now I want a pink scarf and calf leather brown boots. Bugger. :(

Challenge # 8 - Zombies

We have risen from our graves. We have caught a disease. We have been chemically altered. We are zombies!  This October lets play tribute to the undead with some zombie pin-ups.  To get those gears a rollin' in your head, here is some inspiration from Brett Bean.

Challenge #7 - Days of Summer

The weather is heating up and somebodies's grilling up something tasty!  It must be summer time.  I don't know about you, but I can't wait to get outside and enjoy the sun.  For our next challenge lets do a pin-up of summer time activities.  What are your favorite things to do in the summer?  Perhaps you enjoy surfing, going to the beach, picnics, tanning, hiking, camping; the possibilites are endless!

Adventure is out there!  So what are you waiting for?  Draw something fun this month.

Here is some inspiration from Genevieve Tsai and Brittney Lee:

Challenge #6 - Superheroes

May is always filled with big movie release dates for the summer blockbusters, and right around the corner is the new Avengers movie.  Lets draw some pin-ups inspired by your favorite superheroes!  You can use an existing superhero from Marvel, DC, etc, or make up your own, either way, this challenge is going to be super!

Mary Sue at Lori's Diner

Here is my work in progress for the photo challenge.  This is a picture of Lori's Diner in San Francisco.  Sadly it is not my own picture.  I got it off of Google images.  There are a lot of areas that I would like to revisit.  This ending up being a lot more challenging than I thought.  I still need to work on the lighting and shading on her.

Challenge #5 - Photo Inlay Pin-up San Francisco

Alex Marston came up with a great challenge to kick things off for April.  Draw a pin-up girl and use a photo as your background.  In this case, your background photo must be of a place in San Francisco. Be sure to have your pin-up girl interacting with some kind of prop that is a part of the photo like a motorcycle or chair.

For instance, you could take a picture of your favorite cafe with the tables and chairs outside and then draw in your character.  It would be great if you took your own picture for this challenge, but if you don't live near San Francisco to take a picture then by all means feel free to use a picture off of the internet.  Please tell us in your post if you took your own picture or not.

This will be a fun challenge!  Thanks for suggesting Alex!

Saturday, March 31, 2012

Hey guys, can I make a suggestion for this new challenge? I was thinking about doing a photo inlay pin-up girl. Basically you take a photo with a motorcycle or a chair, anything really, and you place your pinup on top of it. We could do a San Francisco Girl challenge. All the photos can be from spots around SF and the kind of girl you might see there. It can be a really cool effect and I have been wanting to try it out. Would that be cool?

Love Potion No. 9

Here's my entry for something Mad.  I drew and colored this quickly this evening.  I've fallen behind on my entries this month, but I plan to make up for it.  I'd like to clean this up and give it a proper coloring job.

Lucky Girl

A bit past St. Patrick's Day but here's what I got! First version sucked and had to redo it to get it like this. Still exploring my personal style. I think cel-shading suits me well and it's quicker ;)

Challenge #4 - St. Patrick's Day

Top of the mornin' to ya! St. Patty's Day is this Saturday so to help celebrate lets draw some pin-ups inspired by the holiday. I wanna see shamrocks, leprechauns, pots of gold, and lots of green! Let your imagination run wild and may the luck of the Irish be with you.

Djanga!

I've been watching a bunch of Django movies recently and so I figured I'd do a girl with a big ol' gatling gun. Obviously I took some liberties with the Italian.

Mad Bomber

For something mad...I decided to go with mad bomber hat.
It was referenced off an ad image I saw on tumblr and I wanted to play on it. I added textures from images I found on google to the hat and pants.

Challenge #3 - March MADness

March Madness is finally upon us!  Your first challenge for the month of March will be to draw a pin-up of a MAD ________ (fill in the blank).  For example, a Mad Hatter, a Mad Scientist, a Mad Mom, a Mad Girl/Boyfriend, a Mad Magician, etc; etc.  Basically anything you want as long as it's MAD!

Good luck and enjoy the madness!

MEOW~

I decided to go with Eartha Kitt as catwoman. I wanted to try Sho's style with simple shapes in black and white. It was a lot of fun to try out

Foxy Cleopatra

For the Black History Month challenge, I decided to have fun with it and draw Beyoncé Knowles as Foxy Cleopatra from Austin Power's Goldmemeber.  I will post the colors to this piece as soon as I finish them.  I wanted to try something different so I'm coloring in Flash for a clean vector look.

Be Mine Valentine Pin-Up

Sigh....I had hoped that work would not be beating me into the ground...but that's why I made sure to draw something on paper (gasp!).

There is a painting in the works - the Fates willing - and it will be done (someday).

Challenge #2 - Black History Month

With 15 days left in February, including today, I say we dedicate it to Black History.  This challenge will be left open to your own interpretation.  Either draw a pin-up related to Black History or to famous African Americans.  For myself, this is a great excuse to draw more sexy girls, but feel free to expand upon that idea.  If you want to do something more serious related to Black History you could feature people like Martin Luther King, Harriet Tubman, or Rosa Parks to name a few.

Challenge #1 - Valentine's Day

The pin-up challenge has begun!

Since Valentine's Day is right around the corner I figured it'd be a great source of inspiration for our very first battle royale.  For even more inspiration, check out Bill Pressing's super cute Valentine's Day girls:

Valentine's Day 2009
Valentine's Day 2010

When I think pin-up girls and Valentine's Day, those girls are the first that come to mind.  What pops into your head?  Lets see it!  You have until the 15th of February to post your Valentine's Day pin-up!
